Winding down

Optional day-trip to Segovia, which many combine with last-minute shopping (when I get in the plane, the attendant asks, “Flying or moving?”)
Highlights? Aqueducts and castles, shoe stores and pottery, and another fabulous dinner at Venta el Buscón.

We’re on our way home – I’m writing this in the plane as we fly between Frankfurt and Chicago. Never easy to get up at 3:00 a.m. – or to navigate an airport with luggage and security at 4:30 a.m. sans coffee. Jade leaves on a later flight, so we say goodbye to him in Barajas (Madrid’s airport) before we catch the Madrid-Frankfurt flight. Security is tight in Frankfurt, and Anna – who has already suffered through lost luggage – is pulled aside because her laptop is dead and she doesn’t have the cord in her backpack (they need to see it turned on to be assured that it is, indeed, a laptop). But we’re on the plane – and we’re going home. A truly fabulous trip.
