This university has a unique history.
Established in 1928 with a grand total of 34 students, it was known as Fort Smith Junior College. Throughout the years this institution grew and had the following changes to its identity: Westark Junior College (1966) / Westark Community College (1972) / Westark College (1998) and has joined the University of Arkansas System in 2002 as the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith.
They now have an enrollment of more than 7,000 students each semester.
The university is located on 168 acres with an award winning, nationally recognized arboretum.
