Florence – Day 8

Given the amount of time spent on the bus yesterday, we were all thankful to spend the entire day in Florence. We started out bright and early with a walking tour of the city. After pointing out a few noteworthy landmarks, our guide Roberto brought us to Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo’s original statue of David. We walked past the Duomo, and even though it was early, he said the lines were already 1-2 hours long, especially to climb to the top of the dome. We proceeded to Piazza della Signoria, which is an amazing outdoor sculpture gallery. We then explored the Uffizi Gallery, followed by the Vasari Corridor, which links the Uffizi to the Pitti Palace. The tour was much too short to really see all the masterpieces, but Roberto did a great job teaching us about the best of the best. We were then free to eat, shop and explore, as we will be back on the bus in the morning!
