Monday was a rainy day but the sunshine was powerful in the churches we toured today. I think everyone – except Dr. Joel Mann, who knows his world history! – has learned a lot about Western Civ history, and especially the aftermath of the 30 Years War. Something more than knowledge was also witnessed today, as we saw the very talented Fr. Stefan, O.Praem, play the massive church organ in the Roggenburg Abbey. Fr. Stefan did a bit of an ad hoc Doxology – he really wowed the crowd with Albert Renaud’s Toccata in D Minor. What a treat! Tomorrow will be rainy still, but the radical hospitality and gastronomic excellence of Roggenburg will warm our hearts for many days to come.
