Easter Break

Whats good everybody? Hope everyone’s Easter was good! I had a great time with my family. You see, my sister is moving out soon to get married so it was her last holiday at home. Pretty crazy, it will be very different to say the least. Easter was very relaxing and good to catch up with my friends. I had a couple friends stay with me who are from Florida, and it made the trip a lot more enjoyable. We hung out with family and friends and had a family party (Much more calm then what I’ve been used to). Although it was fun being at home I am happy to be back. I have a pretty easy week considering we started Tuesday and I only have 3 days of school.
This last stretch of school will be interesting as the weather is getting beautiful and we can taste summer. I hope I don’t enjoy it too much and see my grades fall. The year will end with spring basketball as our team is going to Italy the first week of summer! I can’t wait to be overseas and see what life is like. It will be a blast with our family’s and Father Jim is even joining along. It is safe to say I cannot wait for summer and it will be hard to keep my mind off of it. Until next time, stay classy.

Spring Break

What’s good?! Man a lot has happened since my last blog. Spring break finally came and I was pumped to go home. I wished I was going to a warmer place but I needed to be back at school for surgery on Wednesday. At first I was disappointed but the weather back home in Chicago was really nice. Every day was higher than sixty-five. I spent most of my time at home sleeping and enjoying home cooked meals. Not to mention all the food in Chicago which is much better than the food here in Green Bay. When it was time to come back up for surgery I was a little bummed to leave home but it all went well and I’m already walking.
I spent most of my time lying in bed enjoying the NCAA tournament as well as watching St. Norbert win back to back Men’s Hockey Championship. I watched it at the abbey and it was packed. They dominated and the atmosphere was really cool. It’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my time here at St. Norbert. This week is hectic and I’m busy every day. Seems like every class has a test or project due this week. It is going to be tough but nothing I can’t handle. Keep it Real People!

Midwest Conference Tournament

Wow it has been way to long! I’ve been really busy lately getting back into this semester. My classes this semester have kept me busy to say the least. As well as school we hit the finishing stretch of the season. It was nothing short of hectic these past three weeks. Last blog I had told you about our big upset over Grinnell. Well it was huge and allowed us to finish the season in 3rd place. We finished the season with a huge win at Lawrence.
We would enter the tournament playing Grinnell again in the first round, the host team and first place winner. Lake Forest would play Carroll who made it in on the last day of the season. We would play second and when we arrived, Carroll was beating Lake Forest. They would go on to win which meant if we won we would play fourth seeded Carroll. All we had to do was take care of Grinnell.

We came out and played our best defensive game and beat them in what I believe was our best game. We were all excited at a chance to go to the NCAA Tournament if we were to defeat Carroll. We got to hang out with our families and enjoy a relaxing night after a big win. Unfortunately Carroll would win the next day as they played nearly a perfect game. It was not easy to swallow but we will be back there next year as all of our starters are returning. The loss will motivate us to work hard this off-season and there is no doubt we will be in the same spot next year.

Crazy Weekend and Winter Carnival

What up What up!!!
What a crazy weekend! End of the week ended slowly as usual as everyone looked forward to the weekend. School was good this week as I took two quizzes and think I did very well on them. The Winter Carnival has been going on and I had the pleasure of getting to see the talent show. I first went to support my teammate Garrett Thorn as he sang “Good Directions” by Billy Currington. It turned out to be a good time. Some seniors did the song “Summer Love” from Grease and it was no doubt the crowd favorite.
When the weekend finally arrived it was time for two huge games. We beat Monmouth College on Friday pretty easily and played Grinnell, the number one team in our conference, on Saturday. They play a crazy style of basketball and it is a very fast game. We were down a lot of the game until Brandon Grease hit a three to tie the game. He would end up hitting the winning free throw with 1.8 seconds left. Schuldes was crazy as we pulled off the upset. There was great support from our students and they mobbed us as we won. It was a great win and I think it will boost our confidence as we head into the postseason.

Semester 2 Begins

What’s Good?! Seems like yesterday everyone was leaving for Christmas break! Can’t believe the second semester is already here. Hope everyone’s break went well. I was sure happy everyone came back to campus because J-term was a little lonely with only couple sports teams here. I spent the majority of my winter break recovering from surgery. Therapy is still going on and it sure is not my favorite thing to do. As J-term came to a close the basketball team was sitting in 4th place after a tough loss to Lake Forest last Friday. We had a huge win over rival Lawrence yesterday and we are looking forward to a huge game Saturday at Ripon.
Well classes sure won’t be too easy this semester. My biggest struggle will be calculus but I’m sure I will end up ok. I’m looking forward to this semester I just can’t imagine it being any faster than the last. Hope everyone gets off to a good start!

Getting ready for Finals and Christmas

These last two weeks are going to be no easy walk through the park. I have two papers due and two finals to study for! All of which are due on the same day, which means I need to get a good head start this weekend. I’m staying here this weekend while the team has the longest road-trip of the year, Grinnell and Monmouth. I’m disappointed I won’t be able to join but I get four more years because I redshirted this year due another knee injury. I’ll watch the game on the internet, but it still won’t be the same.
Staying back will relieve a lot of stress and allow me to focus on school. Although I should have started preparing for finals earlier this week, it was a priority for my roommate and I to get some Christmas lights up in our room. At first we thought one strand would be good enough. However we got way too caught up and ended up spending way too much of our time buying lights and clips for them to go on. So after five days of being back at school I still have yet to start preparing. It’s going to be a very long two weeks.

Basketball and Long Weekend

Wow it’s been so long since my last blog! My computer broke and I didn’t have my computer for two whole weeks. Quite a bit has happened since then. The basketball team took a trip to Rock Island, Illinois to face the #1 team in the country. We didn’t do very well but later down the season I feel we will be much more improved. We came back and last Tuesday dominated MSOE. Our team will play Grinnell and Monmouth this weekend both games away which means it will be a long weekend.
This break was much needed. Went back home planning on doing homework, but ended up accomplishing very little. Whoops! It was a blast seeing all my friends but part of me missed St. Norbert. What was weird is Friday after talking to some hockey players and seeing how their thanksgiving was they told me they weren’t able to go home. I figured they stayed up in Wisconsin, but turns out they were in my town. My hometown of Naperville is bigger than Green Bay so I figured they were nowhere near me. Sure enough they were the next street over. So Friday night I ended up seeing them. Small world to say the least. SNC is everywhere!

The Road to SNC

I have quite an interesting story on how I ended up here at St. Norbert. I always wanted to go small but had no idea where I wanted to go. Talking about colleges however was not one of my favorite things to do. I had always said I wanted to play basketball but at that time I really was not being recruited. I had just gone to a showcase and had not heard any sort of interest from anyone. I had finished up summer league and would not have a chance to play in front of colleges until the season, which was four months away. As summer drew to an end I was slowly starting to accept the fact that maybe I was not going to have that opportunity.
My family left on a week-long cruise and it was on the plane ride down that my Dad said to me, “Let’s start looking at schools, maybe basketball will come up later.” His first suggestion was St. Norbert. At this point I thought my senior season was going to be my last. It stung but by the end of the vacation it was off my mind. The day we got home I went up to my room to go to bed and my dad called me down to listen to the voicemail. There were three messages from three different schools, the last being coach Grzesk. It was a month later I visited and realized how great this place was. I visited on August 30th and on the way home I told my parents I wanted to commit. They made me look at several other schools but SNC was incomparable. I’ve been here for two and a half months and still think it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.
