Wow! Long time no blog, but no worries I’m back. I had a great first semester and Christmas break. I was luck to go down to Mexico and visit my family that I had not seen in about 3 years. It was the best Christmas break ever got to relax with my family and meet so many new friends. Half my family and I went to Puerto Vallarta for Christmas. Also my cousin Kari and I have birthdays a day a part so we decided to throw a party to spend sometime with our friends then the day of my birthday our family throw a party at my grandmother’s for us. It was great to celebrate my birthday with family and friends.

First semester I think was my semester to try new things and explore how it would work. As this second semester starts I feel way more confident with all my new classes and I’m ready to keep working on what I want in the future. Also I believe I had talked about being undecided on my major and just for my readers I will let you guys know I am thinking of majoring in Sociology with a minor in Spanish. I’m working with Career Services to make my decision and they have being of great help.

I will stay in touch with all you guys and blog more often! See you next time.

Almost a month at St. Norbert and I remind myself every day that I couldn’t have chosen a better college! There’s always something going on in my life. From classes, STAR, and Connections training I’m always busy doing something.

When it came time for the roommate situation everyone always worries that they wont get along with whom they get placed with, but for me it was different. During orientation I meet my roommate Abigail Dalla Santa, we had talked before on Facebook but that was about it. We decided to room together because we had already knew each other and didn’t want to get someone we didn’t like. We are both in STAR, which was good because we both moved in the same day a week early. After the first week everyone else was complaining about how they didn’t like their roommate. That made Abby and I realize we had made the right choice.

On Wednesday, Abby and I got the opportunity to help Eric Wagner with a photo shoot to get pictures for the school website and pamphlets. We were really excited to help out, especially because we get along so well at anything that we do. No matter what, having each other at every event, we knew we would have a great time. We got to go to Green Bay’s Farmers Market, the river walk and finally Lambeau Field.

At the end of the week I will be going to Milwaukee to visit my family. I’m participating in the Mexican Independence parade on Sunday, and I’m very excited to see my sister after a month. My parents came up to visit me during Labor Day weekend, which was great. I have always been so close to them and just not being able to see them everyday for me is sad. Yes I’m a bit homesick! When they came to visit they got to meet all my new friends and we got to go to Appleton with Abby and Sabre Padilla another friend of mine from the STAR group that I have gotten close to. Gotta love the new friends and all the fun experiences college has to offer!

Coming from a high school where my graduating class was only 42 students to a college where the freshmen class is 600 students is a big deal. Leaving home, my parents, and friends to move somewhere I did not know anyone were all the thoughts I had before move in day, and I have to confess I was a bit scared for that day to come. But as time traced its way down, the day was here, COLLEGE.

Now that it has been two weeks since I arrived at St. Norbert, I can say those thoughts and fears have vanished, all thanks to STAR (Students Taking Academic Responsibility), a group for first year multicultural students that is meant to help students transition into college by coming a week earlier than the rest of the freshmen class. Being able to take part of this group helped me from being able meet new people, to being able to move around campus without getting lost – a fear many freshmen have. The people in STAR are the best, enough said! In two weeks I’m able to say I have made great friends and people that I can count on for anything… its like I moved away from my family but made a new family. I had the BEST first week in college with all my STAR people from doing all those ice breakers with Maria Sostre and Akeem Edmonds when all we wanted to do was sleep, to going to Bay Beach, to late night “bowling”, and getting flowers on our visit to the farmers’ market.

In addition, the week of welcome, convocation, and the dedication of the class of 2016 were great experiences as well. As I touched the bell for good luck and went off for a campus picnic, I got to see RPM play at the gazebo, and for a grand finale I watched an exciting firework show over the Fox River. On the other hand, I officially started classes and began those sleepless nights because of the reading I have to do for a particular class, cough, sociology, but I could not have asked for a better place to have all these great experiences (with more to come) than St. Norbert College.
