Welcome to the blog of St. Norbert College’s 2014 Gap Experience! The Gap Experience is a full year of leadership, service, travel, and of course, fun adventure! The perfect way for students to explore who they are and see firsthand the needs within our global society that each may be able to fulfill. The first semester will start with a course through the Voyageur Outward Bound School in northern Minnesota, followed by weeklong stints each in Utah with the Four Corners School of Outdoor Education, Chicago with the David Darst Center, and Tennesee with the Once Upon a Time organization. The rest of the fall semester will be spent on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia with the Good News Project. The spring semester will be spent on St. Norbert’s campus.
Check back here for updates on what we’re up to and where we’re traveling next. It’s sure to be quite the adventure and we’re glad to have you along for the ride!
Meet The Staff
Dr. Laura Fredrickson, Director of the Gap Experience
Laura joined St. Norbert College at the turn of the year, 2014 as the first Director of the Gap Experience. An experienced outdoors-woman, bona fide nature lover, and academic, she eagerly accepted the challenge of helping to create an entirely experiential service- learning semester for incoming SNC freshman — to help them learn more about themselves, but to also serve others in the broader, global community. Prior to joining St. Norbert College, she previously taught Environmental Studies at St. Lawrence University, located in upstate New York. Laura received her MS in Outdoor Education from the University of MN, and further earned her PhD in Natural Resources Management, also from the University of MN.
