Hello, my name is Sarah Oliver and I am currently a freshman at St. Norbert College. I graduated from Wrightstown High School in 2007, and immediately decided to enroll in the new partnership between St. Norbert and Bellin College of Nursing program. I have two younger brothers, 8 and 10, and an older brother and sister. I enjoy playing soccer and was a member of the girl’s varsity soccer team at Wrightstown. I also enjoy reading, studying, scrapbooking, swimming, and rollerblading. During the summer I am also employed as a lifeguard and a swimming instructor. I hope that you all enjoy following me through this new program here at St. Norbert College.

Freshman Year Ends and Summer Begins

05/22/08 at 11:40:30 am

Hi Everyone!

I am finally moved back home for the summer and settled in…well, somewhat!

Finals week went alright, but it was really stressful as always. I had my first final on Monday at 2:15 in Philosophy. It went really well, so no complaints there. Then the real fun started with my anatomy and physiology final on Tuesday at 9:15. Luckily it wasn’t a cumulative final, because if that would have been the case it would have just been pure torture. The exam did, however, cover the Circulatory, Respiratory, Reproductive, Excretory, and Lymphatic systems, so I think that the vast amount of material which was on the exam was enough to have me stressed out! The exam was 15 pages long, and it was 15 pages of pure torture! However, I managed to pull an AB off on it, so I guess it went better than what I expected it would! Then Wednesday was my Lifespan Human Development final at 2:15, which was easy! And then finally to top off the week I had my Macroeconomics exam on Thursday morning at 9:15. That final was actually “optional” in the sense that if we chose to take it and scored higher on the final, we could drop our lowest test grade! So that was a huge plus, at least for me, because I discovered this semester that I am econ challenged and I do NOT think like an economist (I think that I am going to stick to what I am good at: science and math!)!

After I got done with my last final on Thursday, I moved the rest of my stuff out of my dorm room. It was hard to leave all of my friends. Those are the people that I saw day in and day out, and they almost become your family and home away from home. So when you finally do leave at the end of the year, you are both excited to get home and see all of your friends that you graduated with from high school who are also returning from their first year of college, but at the same time you are sad because you are not going to be able to see all of the friends that you made up at college for an entire summer. I almost feel as if I am living two different lives: my friends that I have up at school do not know the person that I am back home, and my friends back home do not know the person that I am up at school. It’s kind of weird and is hard to get used to.

I got all of my stuff home on Thursday, however none of it got unpacked right away because I had to be in to work for 3:30 and then I didn’t get home until 8:30 that night. So then the fun began: unpacking! It’s amazing how much crap you can collect over an entire year! Plus, my mom thinks (and I have to agree) that I have accumulated more clothes than what I had when I went to school because for some reason not all of them fit in my dresser and in my closet. As a result, I had to overtake part of my brother’s closet on top of my own closet! I think that I have enough clothes now to sufficiently supply a Goodwill for a few months….it’s kind of sad! But now I have everything in its place and I have begun working for the summer. This summer I am working at the Cp Center and also at the Brillion Community Center where I will be teaching swimming lessons and also lifeguarding. On top of working, I am also taking two summer classes: Microbiology which runs through June and Statistics online which runs through July. Then, as if I am not busy enough, I am playing on two soccer teams (one is a Sunday night league and the other is a Wednesday night league), and I am also coaching 7 year old girls!!! Plus, I am running the Bellin Run in June, doing the High Cliff State Park Triathlon in June, and the Egg Harbor Triathlon (which is near Door County) in July! Then, before I know it August will be here and I move back to school on August 13th to begin fall training for my RA position for next year!!!

So yeah, that is pretty much my summer: soccer, coaching, classes, and work! Oh yeah, and of course fitting in some time to go running because it is the best way to relieve stress in the world and something tells me I may have a lot of that this summer:/ But that’s okay, if I stay busy, I will stay out of trouble Well, I hope that you all have a wonderful summer!!!! Good luck on whatever you choose to do next year, and I hope to maybe see you around campus!

Take Care,
Sarah Oliver
