Hello, my name is Sarah Oliver and I am currently a freshman at St. Norbert College. I graduated from Wrightstown High School in 2007, and immediately decided to enroll in the new partnership between St. Norbert and Bellin College of Nursing program. I have two younger brothers, 8 and 10, and an older brother and sister. I enjoy playing soccer and was a member of the girl’s varsity soccer team at Wrightstown. I also enjoy reading, studying, scrapbooking, swimming, and rollerblading. During the summer I am also employed as a lifeguard and a swimming instructor. I hope that you all enjoy following me through this new program here at St. Norbert College.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Hi Everyone!

So things right now are just crazy! We are finally past our midterm, so the end of the semester seems to just be creeping up so fast it's unbelievable! Oh how time truly does fly.

Last week, this week, and next are nothing but exams for me, so that kind of bites; but oh well, it's all part of the college life. Last week we had our first nursing exam, and surprisingly it wasn't all that bad. Then today I had a biology exam on various metabolic processes that occur within the cell; I know, doesn't that sound like fun? Actually though, it wasn't all that bad! Thursday we have a chemistry exam, and that one is not going to be a walk in the park, I can guarantee that. It is on organic chemistry and the nomenclature of organic compounds, so it requires a lot of memorization and studying to be fully prepared for the exam. And yeah, memorization generally isn't too difficult, but when you have other classes which you have to prepare for too, it can prove to be quite challenging, believe me! Next week on Monday I have my second anthropology exam for the semester. The exams in that class really aren't too difficult, but they require a ton of writing because they are essay exams. Then on Wednesday we have our second English exam. Those, like the anthropology exams are not too difficult, however they require a ton of writing.

This past weekend was quite festive up here at St. Norbert because it was homecoming. There are many different activities that took place, but I think my favorite one of all of them was the black and white dance which was held on Saturday night. It was nice for once to get dressed up and go out for a fun evening of dancing; it kind of reminded me of high school:)

Things have pretty much settled down here for all the freshmen and everyone is use to the differences between college and high school, especially when it comes down to the study habitats you must acquire (if you didn't have them in high school) to succeed in college. It is true, you will probably have to study your butt off, and I know that is what I will be doing all of this week and next week as I prepare for all of those exams I have coming up. And it kind of stinks because a lot of your exams will happen at the same time, they aren't usually spread out very nice like they can be in high school! I definitely miss that aspect of high school for sure! Okay, well I should probably get back to reading my English that I have to have done for my class at 3!

Talk to you later:)

Back to School!

Hi everyone! My name is Sarah and I am a freshman here at St. Norbert College
majoring in their nursing program with Bellin College of Nursing. Things have
definitely been crazy around here for these first few weeks with everyone
getting back into the swing of things with school. Life for me, especially,
has been crazy because now I have to do something I never had to do in high
school and that is learn how to prioritize and manage my time!

My class schedule is difficult, but it is this way with all of the nursing
students. This semester I have Chemistry 103, Biology 115, Anthropology 111,
English Lit 150, and Nursing 103. If I was asked what my favorite class would
be, I would have to say English Lit 150 with Dr. John Neary. He is an awesome
professor and really makes your adjustment here at St. Norbert an easy
transistion.

Last week I had a high school student shawdow me for the day, and she asked
some interesting questions I am sure are on the minds of any senior who is
looking at colleges. First of all, don't worry about getting lost on
campus; the campus is not that big, and within a few days you will know your
way around just fine. Also, if you do happen to get lost, the upper
classmen are very helpful, and they will point you in the right direction.
Also, the cafe food is not that bad, so you don't have to worry about going
hungry while you are here. And finally I will not deny that you do receive
quite a large amount of homework to do, but don't freak out. A lot of this
homework are not assignments which you will turn in on a day to day basis like
you do in high school. Instead, teachers assign readings which you must do to
be prepared for the next class, and it is also up to you to study for each
class on a day to day basis so you do not fall behing in the material. And if
you are not understanding something, professors are very helpful. Every day
they will hold office hours so you are able to go in with any questions you
may have. Also, every professor has a teaching assistant. These students are
generally upper classmen who are majoring in the particular area of study of a
specific class, and they are able to explain things to you if you don't
understand the professor.

Alright, well it is now 7:45 in the morning, and time to start my day. Today
is a long day for me considering I have chemistry class, biology class, and
then also a chemistry and biology lab! Talk to you later!
