I am 20 years old and from a family of 7 including myself. I have an older sister who got her undergraduate from Marquette and her masters from Nebraska. I have two younger brothers who are a freshman and senior in high school in Houston, Texas. I have a younger sister who is in the 2nd grade. I also have two parents. My whole family is living in Houston right now. At school I love hanging out with friends, relaxing, watching movies, playing and watching all sports, working out, and shopping. I work for the admissions office and the event staff at SNC. When I am not at SNC (which is not very often since I lived here this summer) I love to spend as much time with my family as possible. I hope you enjoy hearing about my year at SNC.

Spring Break Fun

03/27/08 at 03:09:04 pm

Hey Guys! I hope everyone had or is having a relaxing and safe spring break!
My spring break was a lot of fun and was very relaxing. It was so nice to
just be able to go home and spend time with my family. The weather was sunny
and 75 degrees almost every day. I think it only rained one day! It is
pretty nice to be able to go home to that kind of weather. We went to College
Station for about half of the break to visit my older sister, younger brother,
and dad. They are living there right now since my dad got a new job. While
we were there we visited the house that we are going to move into in June,
hung out with family friends, and hung out around A&M University where my dad
and older sister work. It is always fun to go to other colleges or
universities to see how they compare to your college. I love Texas A&M, but
it is so different from SNC. It has 40,000 students where SNC has 2,200.
They are both great schools in their own way.

For the other half of the break I was in Houston. While I was home my little
sister and one of my brothers were on spring break too. It was really nice to
be able to spend a lot of time with them. Like always, my mom, sisters, and I
did a lot of shopping while I was home! I love Houston because there is so
much to do and so much shopping available. I also ended up being at the park
a lot playing basketball with my brothers. A lot of the time while I was home
was spent getting ready for my sister's wedding on April 5th. It's about ONE
WEEK away!!! I am so excited to go home next Wednesday for the wedding, it is
going to be so much fun! Other than that my family and I had a really nice
Easter on Sunday, and then I flew back to school on Monday. Overall, I loved
spring break because it was so relaxing.

Now that I am back to school it's so stressful knowing I have so much to do
before finals week! I have my sisters wedding next week, which means I will
be missing a few days of school. In the last month and a half of school I
have a project, debate, two papers, a huge portfolio, and four exams to
prepare for! It is going to be a very busy final weeks of the semester. It
will be so nice once the semester is finally over with.

Well that's all I really have for now. Hopefully next time I write to ya'll I
won't have burnt out from all the craziness at school! Take care until next
time :)

Being a Leader is Tough

03/07/08 at 01:18:19 pm

Hey everyone! I hope everyone has been doing great since the last time I
blogged. Luckily, I haven't been quite as busy lately compared to the first
six weeks of the semester. This week has been a nice break. Basketball ended
about two weeks ago, so now I have more free time since I don't have practices
and games everyday.

Other than that my leadership capstone class has been keeping me pretty busy.
For the class my six other classmates and I have to create a leadership
project and we have to compose a leadership portfolio. It's a great minor,
but it's a lot of work. Our project is going to be awesome, and I think the
campus will really enjoy it. We are going to set up an event for the SNC, De
Pere, and Green Bay community that will inform them more of the leadership
minor and leadership overall. We are going to have former Packer coach, Mike
Sherman, speak on leadership and his leadership experiences thus far in his
life. We are going to have food and possibly a band from SNC play for
entertainment. I think it's going to be awesome for the students and SNC
community. We are planning on having the event Friday, April 25th so if you
are in town you all should definitely go! On top of planning the group
project we have to compose our portfolio, which is worth about 1/3 of our
final grade. We are also strongly encouraged to attend leadership sessions
every Tuesday this semester in order to receive our leadership certificate.
These three different things for the leadership capstone class have been
making my semester really busy!

LUCKILY it is almost SPRING BREAK!!! WOOHOO!! This is a much needed break
from school, and I am really looking forward to it. We have break from
Friday, March 14h until Monday, March 24th. Next week is our last week of
classes and it should be a busy last week full of tests and papers. I have
two exams so far, one of which is actually a two day essay test. The two
exams should keep me in the library 24/7 starting this Saturday. UGH! It
will all be worth it at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14th when I finish my last
class before SPRING BREAK! Did I tell ya'll that I am extremely excited for
SPRING BREAK?! I am going home to Houston/College Station for the break. I
will split my time between the two cities, which isn't bad since they are only
about an hour away from each other. It will be so nice to relax, not worry
about school, and see my family. I haven't been home since January 6th, so I
really miss home. All of my six roommates are going to Florida for the break,
which sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun. I wish I could go with
them, but I really just want to go home and see my family. Too bad I can't do
both!

Well I don't want to keep you too much longer so I will head out! I hope
everyone is doing well and enjoying the second semester of school. Chat with
you soon :)

Staying Busy!

02/19/08 at 01:43:12 pm

Hey Guys! I hope everyone has been doing great since my last blog. I have
been extremely busy the past couple weeks. Last week I had two tests, one in
Media Ethics and the other was in Classical Sociological Theory. I was in the
library all week studying for them. It was worth it though, I ended up doing
pretty well on both of them. On top of the two tests, I have two papers due
in the next two weeks too. School has been so busy, but I can't believe we
are already into our 5th week of classes, and spring break is less than four
weeks away! On top of school I have still been coaching all the time. We are
16-3 right now, and have one game left against Green Bay Preble. Hopefully we
can finish the season at 17-3. I love coaching, but it has been so time
consuming. It will be really nice to have a little extra time when it ends
this week, but I know I will miss it a lot!

Yesterday Hillary Clinton was on campus too. It is pretty nice at SNC because
we get a lot of the presidential candidates here at school. Barack Obama's
wife was here last week, and Barack Obama was at UWGB last week, and then
yesterday Hillary Clinton came to SNC to speak. My professor let us out of
our class early so we could all attend the event. It was pretty awesome to
just be able to hear her speak, whether you are a fan or not. It was a free
event, and I got a pretty good seat too. It was good to hear her speak right
before the primary (which is today) happens.

This week also starts the first of six weeks I am working towards getting my
leadership certificate. I am a leadership minor, and one of my four classes
is my leadership capstone course. In the course we are strongly encouraged to
attend six meetings which works us towards getting a leadership certificate.
I am really looking forward to the meetings. Well that's all I really have
for now! I hope you all are doing great, and I will blog again later!

De Pere is a Winter Wonderland!

02/01/08 at 09:36:01 am

Hey guys!! It seems like it’s been awhile since I last wrote a blog. Since the last blog a lot has been going on with me and around school. First, classes started last Monday on the 21st of January. The beginning of the semester is always busy. It takes awhile to get back into the groove of things, and to figure out how to balance time with classes, studying, work, extra curricula activities, and of course relaxing!! This semester is going to be really hard academically I think. I am taking Social Geography (elective), Classical Sociological Theory (general education requirement), Leadership Capstone (minor), and Media Ethics (major). I think the sociology class I am taking for my GS10 is going be the hardest. On top of classes I have been busy working at the admissions office and I’m still coaching basketball. My team is 13-3 now, and we have 4 games left. We end towards the end of February.

This past weekend my mom and two sisters were in town for a couple of days. My older sister is getting married in April, and one of her bridal showers was in Green Bay on Saturday. It was so nice to be able to see them, and the shower was really nice. This weekend I am heading to Chicago for her bachelorette party, which goes from Friday until Sunday. It will be all of her friends from high school, college, and me that will be able to celebrate with her. There is so much to do in Chicago, so I know it is going to be a lot of fun! The really nice thing about going to SNC is that it is only about a three hour drive from here to Chicago, a two hour drive from here to Milwaukee, and about a two hour drive from here to Madison too. It’s so nice that you can get to any big city pretty easily if you need to.

This past week has been a winter wonderland in all of Green Bay and De Pere. Well I don’t know if I would call it a wonderland. There was a blizzard on Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning. On top of the snow it was about 30 below zero with the wind-chill. Today I think it’s about 15 below zero with the wind-chill. It is ridiculously cold outside! When it is like this outside it makes it so hard to walk to class, I just want to stay in my room all day and stay warm!

Well I better head out now; I hope you all are doing great! Talk to you soon 

Houston for the Holidays

01/08/08 at 02:07:32 pm

Hey everyone! Sorry it has been so long since the last blog, I have been in
Houston for the past 3 weeks visiting my family. My three weeks at home was
really nice. I hung out with my two brothers, two sisters, and parents a lot.
I don't really have any friends in Houston since I did not grow up there, so
most of my time there is usually spent with my family. I don't mind not
having many friends in Houston, because that means I can spend more time with
my family. It would be hard going home and having to balance my time between
high school friends and family. I do miss seeing my friends from high school
a lot though. That is definitely one of the hardest things about moving so
much.

I did a lot of different things while I was home. My family and I went to a
Houston Rocket's basketball game, Texas A&M men's basketball game, and a
Houston Texan's football game. Those were all really fun. I always shop a
lot when I am there, so my sisters, mom, and I did that a lot. The shopping
is awesome there!! Other than that I just hung out with my family, worked
out, played basketball with my brothers, and had a nice Christmas and New
Years. Christmas is really different in Houston compared to in De Pere or
Green Bay. In Houston it never really feels like Christmas because it is so
warm, and there is no snow on the ground. The people still get pretty into
decorating there though. All the houses are covered in lights, and people are
really into the blow up yard art there. They have huge blow up snow globes
with snow blowing around inside it, and big blow up snow men and Santa's. I
thought that was pretty funny. Another thing that's different there is all
the people around our neighborhood hire people to put up their lights for
them. They don't actually do it themselves! It's the weirdest thing. In
Wisconsin people put their lights up when it's 10 degrees below zero, and it's
70 degrees in Houston and no one puts their lights up themselves. Overall
though, it was a really nice Christmas. I got new "Ugg" boots, which was
definitely my favorite present.

Christmas is over and done with now though, and I am back to De Pere to work
for two weeks before school starts up again. We don't start classes until
January 21st, so I have about two weeks of working at Admissions and coaching
basketball until school starts. I got back to De Pere yesterday, January 7th.
It was the longest traveling days of my life. I was stuck in Detroit because
of fog in Green Bay. Then I flew to Milwaukee and was stuck there for awhile
because of the fog. Luckily I made it into Green Bay yesterday afternoon.
It will be nice to have two weeks to get settled and ready for school to
start. I guess I will head out now, and I'll talk to ya'll later.

Emily

P.S. My JV girls basketball team is 8-2 now, and we have 10 games left. GO
TRITONS!!!
