Senior Year
10/15/07 at 11:40:12 amHey all,
Well another year has started. It is actually kind of crazy thinking that I am an actual senior. I know it is said many times but truly time does fly when you are having fun. I am really looking forward to this year, my classes thus far seem intriguing and all my profs. are pretty interesting. My courses are Vietnam War and America, Business and Professional Speaking, Persuasion and Senior Seminar. Since I have finished my Business Admin. Major and my Human Resource emphasis already, I will be spending my final year on campus finishing up my GS courses and getting a Communication minor. Sounds pretty fun right! Well on top of classes, I will also be juggling cheerleading and SHRM.
Before anything else let me tell you about my summer… I stayed in good ole DePere and worked at the Abbey Bar as well as took my final HR class (compensation management). I went to Ohio for my cousin’s wedding on my Dad’s side! I also went to Vegas for the Annual National SHRM Conference, which was a great time! I got to go for five days; I went to a student workshop, got to network and saw three shows while I was there! One of my Best friends got to come and visit me this summer and we had a blast. It was great because she goes to school at Southern Illinois – so I never get to see her except for breaks. Mal, Meredith and I went to Door County to celebrate our other best friend Courtney’s 21st birthday! I also went to Door County with Ryan to take Meredith out for dinner, which was nice because Meredith was up there all summer working as a Marketing intern for a Liberty Squares. Lets see… I also went to Tennessee with my mom’s side of the family where we rented a house on the top of a freaking mountain. But seriously, it was crazy, it took us fifteen minutes to get to our house from the bottom of the mountain. However it was a great time, we went hiking, found some really pretty waterfalls and did a lot of grilling out! There was never a dull moment with 30 people in one house !! I also got to go to the Soo with Ryan this summer, and visit his family and grandparents. Other than those couple events, I stayed a worked a lot.
Then Cheerleading began in the beginning of August and I’m really excited about this year. We as a team have great potential, there are thirteen of us. All the girls are cool and hopefully in the near future, like we have in the past, we’ll all come to enjoy each other’s company. It’s crazy because I remember when I was a freshman cheerleader there was a bunch of other girls. Now four years later, there are only two of us left. Rachael and I are the only seniors… pretty nerve racking but we love pulling rank of seniority! Speaking of Rach, we love to have cheer senior dates ; her and I went to red lobster last week before practice! We are going to try and make this a normal thing which is always fun.
Also, I am the president of SHRM, which is a student chapter of the nationally recognized Society for Human Resource Management. We hold meetings for the most part every other week and have guest speakers come in to discuss what life is really like in the business world, as well as ideas and strategies we as students can use to prepare ourselves for after graduation. I will actually be attending the State SHRM Conference in Lacrosse in two weeks. Which is now why I am going to live the next week in the library, so I can get everything done before I have to leave. More will come about classes and whatnot but until then have a great rest of the week!
