This is my first year at St. Norbert. I transferred from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. I choose SNC because of its small campus and class size, and because of its small town atmosphere. Even though I only live about 10 minutes from campus, I still choose to live in the dorms so I can meet people and become involved on campus. I was involved in a lot of leadership activities at UW-L and I hope to do the same here. I am currently a biology major, in hopes of one day going on to dental school to become an orthodontist.

Mid-Semester? What…Already?

10/16/07 at 01:58:07 pm

I cannot believe long weekend is done and it is already mid-semester! Where have the last six weeks gone? I’m sure you are all wondering the same thing, and because this is my first entry I will try to explain the first six weeks of fall semester in fast forward, and also give you a quick overview of what it’s like to be a transfer student and the process I had to go through. First of all, before I go any further I just need to say that I love it here. My experiences with faculty and students have been amazing so far!

So why did I choose to transfer to St. Norbert? Well, I wasn’t happy where I was and I needed a change. After weighing out my options, St. Norbert seemed to be the best fit for me…small class size, personable professors, and a small campus but still surrounded by a large community. After making my decision, St. Norbert really made the effort to make me feel welcome, and made the transition incredibly easy. I had no problem when it came to choosing classes and getting my credits transferred. Housing was also made very available to me, even though I did not decide to live on campus until July. Overall, my transfer process was easy, and I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better! The staff here was absolutely amazing, and was available to me whenever I needed help with anything, whether it was financial aid, my class schedule, or housing.

After everything was settled with my transfer, and I was officially a student at St. Norbert, I found out I was living in Madeline Lorraine Hall. I didn’t know my roommate but we got to know each other over the summer by way of (yup you guessed it) the one and only Facebook! Well, move-in day was kind of hectic, and sleeping in a room with someone you have never met before is somewhat awkward, but after about the first week or so we began to talk more. We get along really well now and have become great friends!

The first six weeks of the semester have gone so fast! This semester I am taking organic chemistry, history of Latin America, philosophy of human nature, and the introduction to American studies. My classes are going really well, and I have great professors. I would have to say that my least favorite class is organic chemistry, and I am a science major so I might have to reconsider my major! But anyways, classes haven’t been extremely difficult, but the work load is defiantly starting to build up! I am pretty stressed this week with all the homework I have and club activities. I am currently in Biology Club; we have a highway clean-up service project on Friday. I am also in Pre-Health Club, and we have a speaker coming this week to talk about eating disorders. I also joined a social group on campus called CCHams. There are about 70 girls in the group. It has been a great way to meet people and get involved on campus. We have been very busy because homecoming starts this week, and there are a lot of activities, such as, a parade, football and volleyball games, and other various competitions. Well, back to studying and preparing for homecoming. Yay!
